This week, Breakthrough Men’s Community was honored by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. Executive Director Arnold Westphal and Board Member Ron Gaasch accepted a resolution recognizing the organization’s longstanding commitment to empowering men, strengthening families, and transforming communities.

Here is the full text of the resolution:

Before the Board of Supervisors in and for the County of Monterey, State of California

Resolution No.: 25-328

Adopt a resolution in recognition of Breakthrough Men’s Community and their commitment to empowering men and transforming communities.

WHEREAS, Breakthrough Men’s Community was founded with the mission of empowering men to break cycles of violence, shame, and isolation by fostering accountability, emotional healing, and positive transformation; and

WHEREAS, through education, mentorship, and peer support, Breakthrough Men’s Community provides a safe and structured environment where participants can confront challenges, develop healthy coping skills, and cultivate respect for themselves, their families, and their communities; and

WHEREAS, Breakthrough Men’s Community has helped countless men in Monterey County and beyond to break free from destructive behaviors, repair relationships, and contribute positively as fathers, partners, employees, and leaders; and

WHEREAS, Breakthrough Men’s Community strengthens the broader community by promoting compassion, responsibility, and nonviolence, aligning with the County of Monterey strategic goals of Well-Being and Quality of Life and Safe and Resilient Communities; and

WHEREAS, the success of Breakthrough Men’s Community has been made possible by the dedication of its facilitators, alumni, volunteers, and community partners who remain committed to creating lasting change for individuals and society as a whole.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors on behalf of all the County and its residents thereof, hereby recognizes and commends Breakthrough Men’s Community for their unwavering commitment to empowering men, strengthening families, and transforming communities through healing, compassion, accountability, and hope.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors celebrates the positive impact of Breakthrough Men’s Community in improving public safety, supporting behavioral health, and fostering dignity and respect for all.

This recognition highlights not only the work of Breakthrough Men’s Community as an organization, but also the courage and dedication of the many men who have chosen a path of healing and accountability. Their commitment has created ripple effects—strengthening families, restoring relationships, and building healthier, more compassionate communities.

Breakthrough Men’s Community is grateful to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors for acknowledging this impact and to all who have supported this mission for nearly four decades.
